Tips On Bowling Strikes After Strikes

Every time a bowler throws their first ball in a frame, there is ONE hope in the forefront of his mind, “Please let it be a STRIKE!” 

Knocking down all ten pins with a single bowl is the best possible outcome and the goal to which all bowlers aspire. We all go through “beginners luck” initially, but then seem to lose sight of whatever we did to make it happen.

We all admire the bowler who can bowl multiple strikes in a game. Thankfully, there are bowling tips and techniques you can learn to replicate that magic moment, and start bowling strike over and over again!

Where do you begin?

Right where you stand.  Literally. The fundamental to your bowling success is where you place your foot. Even if you do everything else in the right way, if your feet are not where they need to be, the ball won’t go where it needs to either! 

Are you right or left handed? For left-handers, aim your right second toe at the 1-pin. If you’re right handed, aim your left second toe at the 1-pin. It may feel odd at first, but make no mistake…it works!  Watch the foot placement of pro bowlers and you’ll see they do it too. 

Keeping your proper foot aimed at the head pin allows your shoulders to relax and square up with the foul line, making the ball more likely to go where you want it.

Step up to the swing

You now know where to begin. Let’s talk about where we’re going…to your first intentional strike.  Cradle your ball and retract your arm.  You’re just four steps away from bowling your first strike ball!  If you are right handed, step with your right foot, then with your left foot.  As you step with the left foot your ball arcs downward. Take your third step with your right foot as the force of the ball lifts your arm upwards. Release the ball and use your left leg as a counterweight to maintain your balance.

Releasing the ball

It’s important to release the ball at the proper time. If you release too soon, your ball will start rolling too soon and it won’t have enough energy to knock the pins down. If you release on the upswing, you’re likely to divot the lane at worst, and roll into the gutter at best. The best time to let go of the ball is just as centrifugal force starts to guide the ball upward.  You’ll feel it in your hand as gravity begins to pull at the weight of the ball. Be sure your wrist is straight and relaxed and that you’re aiming for the strike zone (the little “x” on the lane in between the arrows).

Following through

As you release the ball, remember to NOT look at it. Your eyes should remain fixed on your target and your arm should continue its upward arc until after the ball has been released.  It happens all too often when a beginner bowler pulls his arm back rapidly and watches the ball, only to have it roll off course. You definitely don't want that happen to you! Where your eyes are looking is where your shoulders and feet are usually pointing.  And we know that to bowl a strike, they all need to be facing forward!

Discover natural history and wildlife at the International Wildlife Museum

The International Wild Life Museum is a private natural history museum created to supporting your knowledge and appreciation of the country's fascinating animal life. Founded in 1988, the museum includes over 400 kinds of wildlife—insects to prehistoric mammals—from around the world.

The museum exhibits wildlife in natural habitats, wildlife videos, interactive exhibits, guided interpretive tours, and hands-on displays.

Tour description:

Guided tours can be arranged for ages 6 and up. Guided tours may be customized to meet your needs of a class curriculum.

Other opportunities:

Pre-visit activity packets are available for all approved classes. Regularly shown wildlife movies are free and available to all. Reserved exhibits are available to guided tour groups only.

The center holds weeklong summer classes for kids ages 5-11. Natural heritage lectures and family events are funded by the museum during the year. Wildlife courses and activity programs, videos, and artifacts are also available on loan. Contact Jennifer Stoddard at 629-0100, ext. 311.

Outreach opportunities

Programs emphasizes the natural heritage of wildlife across the country exhibiting live animals and artifacts. Whether you are a seasoned pro when it comes to the fine art of cooking or an utter novice, there should be some cooking schools or resources in your area that can help you learn and improve your existing skills. Interestingly, only a few manage to use opportunities available to them when it comes down to cooking classes.

If you are considering a cooking class you should be glad to know that many communities offer them for a nominal fee at night and sometimes on the weekend. These classes are rather basic and often designed to help women learn the basics of a few economical and healthy meals to prepare for their beginning families. If this is for you, visit the library for the available classes in your area locally. If they don't have the information available to you, it's most likely they can direct you in the right direction. If for some reason you're tight for time, there is also an option in taking cooking online classes. It will be easy to learn such skills as cooking rice, pastas, fish, and any other tantalizing dish.

If you are looking for cooking classes that you can take with your children, check out your library once again for the first resource. There are also many gourmet food shops that offer cooking classes for parents to take with their children. This is a great opportunity to bond with your child while you both learn to prepare a new dish or two together. It is quite likely that you will be quite surprised by the things you can learn from your child as well as the things you can learn by simply taking the class.

For those among us who are seeking culinary experience with very specific cuisines you will have to search a little more for the perfect cooking classes in which you can achieve your goal. They do exist however, though your chances of learning Thai cooking are much greater in a larger city than in smaller towns throughout the country. If you are really interested in learning some exotic cooking techniques perhaps you should consider a vacation in which you can try out a few new cooking classes while you are there. If you prefer other things on your vacation to cooking you could make a point of attempting one basic class in the cuisine of your choice for each vacation you take. This will give you a little more than the same old souvenir to bring back from your trip and an experience that in many cases is quite memorable.

A good for those romantics would be to have you and your partner sign up to a cooking class and attend together? Believe it or not, these classes are often offered in both big and smaller cities. They seem to be all the rage around Valentine's day, perhaps the hint is that the other partner in a relationship can share some of the cooking responsibility or perhaps the idea is that there is more than one way to steam up the kitchen.

No matter what the reason is for attending a cooking class, they are pure enjoyment and will make things easier for you in the kitchen. If you've never taken a cooking class, there is no time like the present to do so. No matter how skilled you are in the kitchen there is always something that can be learned.
